Our dear friend Raju just got a brand new assembled PC. It's
a P-III running at 800 MHz with 128 MB ram & 20 GB hard disk!!!!
His parents after hearing all the hype about the need
of a computer decided to buy him this PC as they thought it's going
to help him a lot in gaining knowledge and in studies. But our dear
friend Raju has something else on his mind, he was completely
facinated by some 3D games he had seen on TV commercials and computer
magazines , he just couldn't wait to get his hands on one of them,
particularly QUAKE-III. He got cd from a friend. After a smooth
installtion just having to click on the 'NEXT' button a few
times, he had a QUAKE-III icon on his desktop. Our friend holds his
breath and clicks on the icon just waiting to be transported to a
whole new exiting world of 3D games and there is a 'sigh', no it's not
a sigh of relief, it is because he sees a message similar to :-
searching for opengl.dll
failed
assuming 3dfx
searching for minigl.dll
failed
program halted.
Does that sounds familiar, has it happened to you as well? Then you
and Raju have something in common, either you have been taken for a
ride by the assembler or while cutting corners to save a few bugs
you missed out something important, something like your display card
to be more specific. The quality of the graphics on the screen
doesn't depend on your CPU or system RAM but on the graphic
processor and VRAM on the display card.Lets try to know a few things
about graphics card.
