Setup a peer2peer network(lan)

The simplest & the cheapest way to set up a home or local area network is using Thin Ethernet (10base2)connected using Co-axial cable which is specified as RG58(don't use any other type of coax-cable).you may find that the task of setting up a local area network is not as daunting as you thought .

To start with the maximum distance between the two terminal PCs should not be greater than 185 meters and a maximum of 30 nodes (each connection on the RG-58 cable is called a node ,it can be a PC or a UNIX workstation or network printer) can be connected. The minimum distance between two nodes is 0.5 meters.

A BNC T-type of connector is used to join the cable to the nic (network interface card or 10bas2 card or ethernet card)

The coax-cable should be a single strand the T-type connects should be directly inserted in the nic ,you cannot bifurcate the cable nor can you put a extention between the T-type connector and the nic

At the two terminal PC the coax-cable should terminated using 50 ohm resistors of which one should be open terminal and the other should be a grounded

No wire or chain : open terminator !
A wire or chain: a Grounded Terminator !
Don't forget to connect it to a metal part of the computer box,
otherwise it is NOT grounded !

You want a "healthy" network ?
you need one "open" terminator at one end of the cable
and one "grounded" terminator at the other end of the Thin Ethernet cable !
Without proper "termination", the network may not work,
it may work, but then unreliable or slow.
